Tea culture was first introduced to Georgia in the middle of the 19th century. The Georgian prince Eristavi tried to breed her. A little later, the famous botanist P. Krasnov, the founder of the Batumi Botanical Garden, made his great contribution to the development of this culture. The origins of Georgian tea growing also stood Jacob McNamara captured during the Crimean War, an English officer. He married a Georgian woman and devoted his life to the industrial production of Georgian tea.

A great contribution to the breeding of Georgian varieties of tea was played by specialist Lau Jan Jau, specially called from China. In the village of Chakvi, which is now a suburb of Batumi, and now you can see his house, with the motifs of a pagoda. The first tea plantations appeared in the village of Chakvi, there is even a suburb, which is called & laquo; Chais ubani & raquo; (Tea District).

Already in 1864, at one of the international exhibitions, Georgian tea received an award. When Georgia was part of the USSR, tea growing became one of the main directions of the economy of the republic. But over time, the planned economy, which requires a lot of tea, and the mechanization of leaf collection have made it impossible to drink Georgian tea. & nbsp;

Now the tea culture is gradually reviving. Moreover, Georgian tea is one of the best, since it is not treated with pesticides and other chemical fertilizers.
